love this title

A few years ago, I read and loved Julie Kenner's The Givenchy Code, which I thought was such a clever title (check out the book cover, and you'll see why). Now, the very talented and bestselling author of Carpe Demon and California Demon brings us….

DEMONS ARE FOREVER

Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom

by Julie Kenner

Kate Connor is the busiest – and most dangerous – mommy on the block!  Having traded in her professional life for the rewarding (yet arguably less glamorous) duties of a stay-at-home mom, Kate – Wal-Mart shopper, loving wife – has recently rejoined the workforce.  Reconciling her home obligations with the demanding needs of her job has proven tricky, however.  Kate seems to have not one but two full-time jobs, and there’s no telling which takes more work: being a Level Four Demon Hunter or a Stay-At-Home Mom!

DEMONS ARE FOREVER: Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom (Berkley Trade Paperback; July 3, 2007; $14.00), by Julie Kenner, is the third installment in the devilishly funny Demon series, which has become a favorite amongst young mothers —demon-loving or not. These days, Kate Conner has a lot on her plate. Her daughter has figured out what she’s been up to, and wants to grow up to be just like her mom. Kate also has a sneaking suspicion that her dead husband is using the forces of darkness to filch the body of another human being.  And her living husband isn’t exactly acting like the man she married either.

Moreover, Kate’s acquired a precious but deadly item that every demon within commuting distance wants.  With husband woes wrecking havoc on her emotions, and an ambitious teenage protégée at her heels, this stay-at-home mom is putting in a lot of overtime.

A new take on the demons that moms fight everyday, from car-pools, to chaperoning, to growing pains, DEMONS ARE FOREVER is a fun, fast, smart and entertaining adventure in mommy-lit.

The first book in the series – CARPE DEMON – is currently in development as a feature film with Warner Brothers and 1492 Pictures.  The second book – CALIFORNIA DEMON – is a current RITA finalist.

Praise!:

“Ninety-nine percent of the wives and moms in the country will identify with this heroine.”

-Jayne Ann Krentz, New York Times bestselling author of FALLING AWAKE

“What would happen if Buffy the Vampire Slayer got married, moved to the suburbs and became a stay-at-home mom?  She’d be a lot like Kate Conner.” -Publishers Weekly

No matter how many times I've seen the PBS miniseries of Anne of Green Gables, if I catch a glimpse of Megan Follows or Colleen Dewhurst, I'm sucked in all over again.  Anne of Green Gables, by Lucy Maud Montgomery, is probably my very favorite book, and this film version is just magical.

blast from the past

Way back in 1993-1994, when I was a mere twentysomething, I had a boyfriend who I recently discovered grew up to become the editor-in-chief of Spin magazine. This was not a surprise, since back then he had a collection of over 2000 CDs and turned me onto music I would never have heard of (I was a Bruce girl mostly and whatever came on top 40 radio). During our relationship, he made me several mix tapes/CDs, and one of them had a song I fell madly in love with: The Weakness In Me by Thelonious Monster, a cover of an old Joan Armatrading song. This boyfriend broke my heart in a million pieces back then, so I couldn't bear to listen to those tapes and threw them away with typical 20something angst.

Well, this morning, I was driving home with my latte to finish my revisions for QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE MARRYING, and what do I hear on the radio? Maine radio? A million years later? A cover of The Weakness In Me by Melissa Etheridge, who I love. She does a gorgeous version (you can listen/see a You Tube video here

I tried to find the Thelonious Monster version online, but no luck. I'll happily go buy the CD (Beautiful Mess).
